BASF and VEGGA have reached an agreement to provide accurate advice on agricultural pest and disease control through the integration of BASF’s Agrigenio into the VEGGA precision agriculture digital platform, created by the Spanish companies Grupo MAT Holding and Sistemes Electrònics Progrés. Agrigenio by BASF is a digital decision support system (DSS) that provides help with decision-making. The combination of these two technologies will now enable farmers to further enhance the protection of their crops, thereby becoming more sustainable and increasing their profitability.

Thanks to the use of precision digital technology by both companies, farmers will be able to predict the emergence and spread of pests and diseases in their crops and optimize the application of plant protection products. “In this way, we are promoting more sustainable and efficient agriculture, in line with the shared goal of the agreement’s signatories, which is to protect agriculture and the environment,” says Pau Relat, CEO of MAT Holding.

As part of this partnership, VEGGA provides farmers with a digital platform that centralizes the comprehensive management of their crops and farms in a single location, using the most innovative technologies.

To this end, VEGGA now utilizes BASF’s Agrigenio tool, which offers the most advanced predictive models for pest and disease risks on the market, enabling users to apply plant protection products with complete precision. “Our goal is, and always will be, to stand by farmers and provide them with the best digital and sustainability solutions available. In this regard, VEGGA and BASF are joining forces as sector pioneers to help farmers on their path toward the highest possible level of sustainability,” says Patricio Fitz Simon, Head of BASF’s Agricultural Solutions Division in Spain.

This partnership between BASF and VEGGA addresses the challenges of digitalizing agriculture and reflects a strong commitment to sustainability.

Digitalization for Sustainable Agriculture

The agricultural sector is undergoing a major transformation toward more sustainable and efficient production, meeting not only consumer demand for higher-quality products with less waste, but also regulatory requirements to minimize agriculture’s impact on the environment in the fight against climate change. This is reflected in initiatives such as the European Farm-to-Table Strategy, which sets ambitious goals: to reduce the use of pesticides by 50% and the use of fertilizers by 20% by 2030.

To achieve these goals, it is essential that farmers have access to data-driven decision support systems (DSS), such as those provided by Agrigenio and VEGGA.

Digital tools facilitate the monitoring, forecasting, and optimization of agricultural operations by collecting and interpreting accurate and timely data, and presenting it in a straightforward manner so that farmers can anticipate potential issues affecting their crops and thereby maximize the return on their investments.
