BASF and VEGGA Join Forces to Boost Digital, Sustainable, and Precision Agriculture

BASF and VEGGA have reached an agreement to provide precise advice on agricultural pest and disease control through the integration of BASF’s Agrigenio into VEGGA’s digital precision agriculture platform, created by the Spanish companies Grupo MAT Holding and Sistemes Electrònics Progrés. BASF’s Agrigenio is a digital decision support system (DSS). The combination of these technologies now enables farmers to enhance crop protection for greater sustainability and profitability.

Thanks to the precision digital technology from both companies, farmers can predict the occurrence and spread of pests and diseases in their crops and optimize the application of phytosanitary products. “In this way, we promote more sustainable and efficient agriculture, aligning with the shared purpose of the agreement signatories, which is to care for agriculture and the environment,” notes Pau Relat, CEO of MAT Holding.

As part of this collaboration, VEGGA provides farmers with a digital platform that centralizes the comprehensive management of their crops and agricultural holdings in one place, using the most innovative technologies.

In this regard, VEGGA now includes BASF’s Agrigenio tool, which offers the most advanced predictive models for pest and disease risks on the market, allowing users to apply phytosanitary control products with complete precision. “The goal is and always will be to stand by the farmer, offering the best digital and sustainability solutions available. In this respect, VEGGA and BASF join forces as industry pioneers to help farmers on their journey towards maximum sustainability,” states Patricio Fitz Simon, Head of the Agricultural Solutions Division at BASF Spain.

This alliance between BASF and VEGGA addresses the challenges of digitalizing agriculture and reflects a strong commitment to sustainability.

Digitalization for Sustainable Agriculture

The agricultural sector is undergoing a full transformation toward more sustainable and efficient production, meeting not only consumer demand for higher-quality, low-residue products but also the regulatory standards aimed at minimizing agriculture’s environmental impact in the fight against climate change. This is evidenced by initiatives like the European Farm to Fork strategy, which sets ambitious goals: reducing the use of pesticides by 50% and fertilizers by 20% by 2030.

To achieve these goals, it is essential for farmers to have access to data-based decision support systems (DSS), such as those provided by Agrigenio and VEGGA.

Through digital tools, the monitoring, prediction, and optimization of agricultural operations are made easier by collecting and interpreting precise and timely data, presenting it in a simple way so that farmers can anticipate potential issues affecting their crops and achieve greater returns on their investments.
